Difference between frame and truss
In our daily engineering work life, the words truss and frame are often used to replace each other. Although they have many similarities, there are some differences between truss and frame.
Both the truss and the frame are made up of a number of triangular members and joined at the joint.
In the truss, the joint is pin-engaged and the member is free to rotate about the pin. Therefore, the truss cannot be transferred instantly. The member is only subjected to axial forces (stretching and compression).
On the other hand, the components of the frame are rigidly joined at the joint by welding and bolting. Therefore, in addition to the axial load, the joint of the frame can also transmit torque.
In fact, you may see that the truss is not flexible at the joints, but if you think it is a perfect truss, the analysis is still acceptable.
